Gmail 707 Error Caused by “Background Send” Lab

Posted on Wednesday, November 9th, 2011 by ITS Communications under Service Disruption.

Recently, Gmail users (including iSpartan users) have reported an error when trying to send email. The error message is “Oops… a server error occurred and your email was not sent. (#707).”

This issue occurs when the Gmail Lab named “Background Send” is enabled. The current workaround is to disable this Lab:

  1. Login to iSpartan.
  2. In the top-right corner, click the Settings icon and select Mail Settings.

    Settings pull-down menu

  3. Click Labs.
  4. Click the radio button to Disable Background Send, then click Save Changes.

This Lab may or may not resume functioning properly in the future. As Google indicates on the Labs page: “Labs is a testing ground for experimental features that aren’t quite ready for primetime. They may change, break or disappear at any time.”
