UNCG WebEx is scheduled to receive a routine update from the vendor, Cisco. As part of this update, the service will begin prompting users for phone number information upon login. However, in testing, this feature is not working as expected, resulting in repeated prompts for phone number information.
In an effort to protect our users from this unexpected behavior, ITS will assign default (non-functional) phone numbers to each WebEx user. Users who have already provided their own phone numbers in their own WebEx account preferences will not be overwritten. This action will suppress the unwanted prompts for phone number information.
This action should result in no functional difference to the existing UNCG WebEx experience. The phone numbers (or lack of a real phone number) in a user’s WebEx user profile do not affect the user’s permissions or ability to use the service in any way. Users who wish to replace the default phone information with their actual phone number may still do so in their user profile.
The WebEx update will take place at the following times:
- For faculty and staff: overnight Thursday, June 22 – Friday, June 23
- For students: overnight Thursday, June 29 – Friday, June 30
The default phone information will be put in place prior to each update window.
