What: Microsoft releases critical patch for all versions of Windows

On September 23, 2019, Microsoft released a critical update for all versions of Windows to address a severe vulnerability in the Windows operating system. ITS is releasing this patch to protect our computers.

UNCG-owned computers: Friday, September 27, 5:30 p.m. is the deadline for installing this update. The update will be installed automatically upon powering up your computer if it is not installed before this date. If you have a UNCG computer at home, connect it to the GCN using the VPN so that it can update.

ITS-hosted servers: This vulnerability also affects all versions of Windows Server. ITS will run the patch and restart all servers according to this schedule:

  • Development servers – September 26, 2:30 a.m.  5:30 a.m.
  • Validation servers – September 27, 12:01 a.m.  8:00 a.m.
  • Production servers – September 28 and September 29, 1:00 a.m.  8:30 a.m.

Personal computers: This vulnerability affects all installations of Windows. If you have a personal Windows computer, patch it immediately.
