The evaluation of macOS Catalina, announced on October 3, 2019, is complete. The upgrade is now available for UNCG Mac users.
Critical Change to Antivirus and Antimalware Protection
With macOS Catalina, Apple removed all support for 32-bit apps. Therefore, 32-bit apps do not run on Catalina.
To protect UNCG Mac users, Information Technology Services (ITS), in collaboration with departmental technical support, changed the official campus antivirus program to Defender ATP, Microsoft’s next-generation antivirus and antimalware platform. System Center Endpoint Protection is the old platform that will no longer work in Catalina. UNCG users must use Defender ATP to protect their systems.
To upgrade to Catalina and convert to Defender ATP, follow the instructions in Upgrade macOS to Catalina.
The upgrade will take one to two hours to complete. Plan accordingly.
If you have already upgraded to Catalina, follow the instructions in Enroll My Mac in Intune to ensure that your system is always protected by the latest antivirus client.
For more information about the macOS Catalina upgrade, see macOS Catalina @ UNCG.
