What: Update to Spirion, UNCG’s solution for monitoring sensitive data on Windows computers

On June 19, 2020, campus Spirion settings were modified to help eliminate false positives and reduce computer resources during scans. ITS recommends that Windows computers be updated to take advantage of the performance benefits.

Client action

On campus: The Spirion update is applied to computers when they are connected to the UNCG campus network. Therefore if your computer is on campus, no action is needed.

Off campus: Spirion will not be updated on your computer without a connection to the UNCG campus network. If you are working off campus and do not have a UNCG remote access point device, you must access UNCG’s campus network via VPN to download the update.

  1. Connect to VPN (see Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client (Windows) for instructions to download and connect).
  2. The update will download and install in the background — no user actions are needed.
  3. Remain connected for approximately one hour to assure proper download and installation.
