What: Microsoft releases a critical patch for all versions of Windows (client and server)
On July 7, 2021, Microsoft released a critical update for all versions of Windows to address a severe vulnerability in the Windows operating system (known as PrintNightmare). Information Technology Services (ITS) is releasing this patch to protect UNCG computers.
Thursday, July 8, 5:30 p.m. is the deadline for installing this update. The update will be installed automatically upon powering up your computer if it is not installed before this date. UNCG computers at home will also receive this update at the same time. A restart is required after the update is installed.
Because this vulnerability affects all versions of Windows Server, ITS will run the patch and restart all servers according to this schedule:
- Development and validation servers – July 8, 2:30 a.m. – 5:30 a.m.
- Production servers – July 8-9, 11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
If you have a personal Windows computer, patch it immediately.
