On January 27, 2023, Information Technology Services (ITS) will delete Google Classic Sites associated with the uncg.edu domain. This is in anticipation of UNCG’s transition from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 and Google’s deletion of Classic sites, scheduled for January 30, 2023. By deleting Classic Sites before Google’s automatic action, ITS will adhere to UNCG’s data retention policies through the elimination of data that is unused and no longer required.
Before January 27, owners of Classic Sites, who wish to keep their data, should convert their sites to the new Google Site platform or export their data via Google Takeout or Classic Sites Manager.
Visit the Classic Site Manager with your UNCG iSpartan account to view a list of all the UNCG Classic Sites you own.
Since November of 2021, when Google announced the end of Classic Sites, a banner has been displayed to site owners that the service is ending and that sites need to be converted to the New Google Sites platform.
On January 30, Google will automatically disable editing for Classic Sites, create an archive of the existing site, and attempt a conversion of any remaining Classic Sites to the new Google Sites platform. This will result in additional data which will have to be addressed in UNCG’s transition to Microsoft 365.
