What: Installation of the Windows 10 22H2 update

When:

  • Monday, February 20, 2023: available to install via AppCat
  • Friday, March 24, 2023, 5:30 p.m: deadline to install

Microsoft releases major updates to Windows 10 every spring and fall. The 22H2 Update was released to campus on February 20, with an installation deadline of March 24, 2023.

Information Technology Services (ITS) recommends installing the update early so that you can control when reboots and start-up delays occur.

If Windows 10 22H2 is not installed by 5:30 p.m. on March 24, the update will run automatically. If your computer is powered off at that time, the update will install the next time the computer starts.

Computers already running Windows 10 22H2 will not be affected. To determine which version of Windows you have, follow these instructions. The version number will display in Windows specifications.

Run the Update Early

Running the update before March 24 allows you to control your machine’s reboot times. Therefore, ITS recommends beginning the update when you are not working, such as at the end of the workday. When you run the update, you will be prompted to restart your computer (it will not restart automatically). If you wish, you can postpone the restart until a convenient time.

Remember, if Windows 10 22H2 is not installed by 5:30 p.m. on March 24, the update will run automatically. If your computer is powered off at that time, the update will install the next time the computer starts.

How to Run the Enablement Package

Most UNCG computers can update to Windows 10 22H2 via an enablement package, a new update mechanism released by Microsoft that updates a computer in under 10 minutes. Run the enablement package as follows:

  1. Open the Application Catalog using the shortcut on your desktop.
  2. Click Updates in the left pane.
  3. Click Feature Update to Windows 10 Version 22H2 x64-based systems 2021-11 via Enablement Package.
  4. Click Install.
  5. Read the prompt, and click Install.

If the update fails, your computer should revert to the previous version of Windows 10. If the update fails and/or your computer fails to revert, contact 6-TECH for assistance.
