On May 8, 2023, Microsoft enabled a new feature to all Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA) services worldwide called number matching. Number matching is intended to provide a layer of awareness and protection for all Microsoft MFA users by requiring acknowledgment from the user that their credentials are being used to log in to a website or service.

This feature is causing new behaviors for UNCG services that are expected and the new normal. When users respond to an MFA push notification using the Authenticator App, they will be presented with a number on the website. The user will then type the number into the app to complete the approval.
